Adriatica.net's internet survey yields surprising results 20. 08. 2009.

An adriatica.net internet survey, lasting from the beginning of June until the middle of August, has been completed some days ago. More than 2000 participants had a say about their preferences, plans and expectations regarding their holidays. They were also asked to give reasons for their choice of destinations and methods of payment for their reservations, offering a valuable insight into individual European markets.

The internet survey made through the www.adriatica.net web site has lead to some quite interesting conclusions. The research has thus shown that Croatian customers are somewhat less inclined to pay for their reservations by credit card than previously thought. As for the choice of destination, the main criterion for Italians is the price.

Greece and Croatia are clear favourites when it comes to Mediterranean destinations, especially among Croatians and Slovenians; the second place belongs to Tunisia, while Spain and Turkey are well below the average.

Slovaks prefer their holidays away from the coast, while it is also not surprising that 75% of Spaniards choose the same – the rhythm of the Spanish tourists is a witness to the fact.

Most participants cited the Adriatic as the place where they will spend their holidays, which is unsurprising, given that adriatica.net at this time of year normally attracts customers interested in this region. In addition, the biggest number of new visitors has been recorded from Spain, France, Poland and Slovakia, while the returning customers mainly come from the German market.

As mentioned above, Croatians rarely choose credit cards as their method of payment, contrary to the common belief – a meagre 2 % in total. Credit cards are favourites among Italians and Germans (15 %).

Germans are also among those who take 2-week vacations the most (63 %), while a high percentage is recorded among Poles and Czechs (50 %). It is interesting to note that Hungarians rather choose a 7-day holiday (55 %), and 20 % of them spend less than a week on vacation. Similar figures apply for the Italian and Slovenian market, which affirms the trend of shorter holidays.

Vacation and relaxation are the strongest reasons for going on a holiday for almost all participants. The Spaniards are, naturally, again faithful to themselves so getting to know the local culture is strongest reason for travelling only for them. Interestingly, 38 % of Italians also cite the same reason.

adriatica.net Group developed from the www.adriatica.net online travel agency. First major enlargement happened in 2004, when the agency took over Atlas Airtours, one of the first tour operators in Croatia.

The expansion continued in 2005, when the company entered German, Dutch and Slovenian markets by taking over ID Riva Tours Gmbh, Odisej and Ilirika Turizem travel agencies. A further step towards enlargement of the Group had been made in 2006, when ATLAS Travel Agency and Kompas JSC, present at more than 26 markets, became members of adriatica.net Group.

Jolly Travel, Serbia’s leading tour operator, joined the Group in 2007.
